Museum-Sponsored Publications on Ukraine

“Writing the history of the Holocaust in Ukraine has been and probably will continue to be a very complicated, politically perilous endeavor.” — Historian Wendy Lower

The fates of Ukrainians during the Holocaust, both Jews and non-Jews, remain a subject of debate, with political rhetoric relating that history to present-day conflict. The publications featured below shed light on that country’s complex history.

The Holocaust in Ukraine

This special edition of the Holocaust and Genocide Studies journal, originally published by Oxford University in 2014, represents more than a decade of research and writing on Ukraine by the Museum. In 2022, the editors selected additional articles produced over the past nine years that represent new developments and explorations in the field.
