Professional Background
Dr. Janine Holc is currently Associate Professor in Political Science at Loyola University, Maryland. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Johns Hopkins University. As the Ben and Zelda Cohen Fellow, Dr. Holc will be conducting research for her project entitled “Female Jewish Slave Labor in Small Firms in Silesia: What Survivor Testimonies and International Tracing can tell us.”
Dr. Holc has speaking and reading abilities in Polish and German.
Dr. Holc is the author of several articles, including “The Remembered One: Memory Activism and the Construction of Edith Stein’s Jewishness in Post-Communist Wroclaw” in Shofar: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies (2011). She has presented widely on the politics of Holocaust memory in Poland.
Fellowship Research
While in residence at the Mandel Center, Dr. Holc conducted research about female Jewish slave labor in the Silesia region during the Holocaust. During her residency she will focus on survivor testimonies in the Museum’s Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive and International Tracing Services resources.
Dr. Holc was in residence September 1, 2016 through January 31, 2017.
