Professional Background
Leonie Rogg is a PhD candidate and research associate at the Center for Holocaust Studies at the Institute for Contemporary History Munich-Berlin. She holds a master’s degree in Eastern European and Jewish history and a bachelor’s degree in Near and Middle Eastern studies, both from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. Ms. Rogg is the recipient of a 2026 EHRI-ERIC Conny Kristel Fellowship for her doctoral research.
Ms. Rogg’s research draws on extensive archival work in Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. It examines the home as a social space during the Holocaust. By reconstructing emotional ties, neighborhood relationships, daily routines and the sense of security that were destroyed alongside the material loss of housing, Ms. Rogg connects perpetrator and victim perspectives, shedding new light on displacement and dispossession in Nazi-occupied Prague.
Fellowship Research
While at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a Judith B. and Burton P. Resnick Invitational Fellow for the Study of Antisemitism, Leonie Rogg will investigate the systematic robbery of approximately 15,000 homes inhabited by Jewish families and individuals in Prague up to 1939. During the German occupation of Bohemia these homes were reassigned to house German civil servants, employees, and families displaced by wartime bombing. Ms. Rogg argues that this robbery was a deliberate part of the occupation strategy in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, not merely a byproduct of antisemitic policy.
She will draw on the Museum's collections of personal documents from Jewish families in Prague and Vienna, including letters, diaries, and eyewitness interviews, to reconstruct the lived experience of displacement at the individual level. She will also examine administrative records of German and Jewish institutions relating to evictions, "Aryanization," the handling of personal belongings, and the activities of central offices.
