Ode to My Three Daughters

By Susan Warsinger

When I gave birth to my three perfect baby daughters, each born almost two years apart, little did I think what they would be like when they themselves would become mothers. Little did I think of them, in this year of 2020, as senior citizens in their sixties. When I looked at them the first time, they snuggled into my heart and I knew that they would be my treasure. Like flowers, they have filled my world with beauty.

The older I get, the more I see their power as matriarchs of their families. They have been good wives and loving mothers. They have always tried their best by being patient, respectful, and forgiving. As role models, they taught their children how to live full lives, seek a high level of education, appreciate art, music, dance, theatre, and reading, marvel at the beauty of nature, and value family gatherings. They have anticipated the needs of their families and have shown courage, sacrifice, determination, and commitment. It is a delight to watch how they adore their family, and I can see that they love their family like a tree loves sunshine and water.

I am so happy that they include me in their lives. I get to participate in their joyous occasions and hear about momentous and ordinary events that occur in their many activities. They demonstrate unconditional love to me, are concerned for my well-being, and respect me.

My three daughters contribute to society with their individual talents in many ways.  They have an enormous work ethic and perseverance. They are good people who are insightful to the needs of others, know how to respond, and go out of their way to be helpful. They are good neighbors and reach out to people and are what sunshine is to flowers.

My three daughters, Lisa, Meryl, and Terese, are some of the most beautiful and important chapters in my life. I love them like they love their own children and like their children love their babies and all the babies that are yet to come.
