Professional Background
Lida Maria Dodou is a researcher, translator, and critical editor at the University of Vienna, where she earned her PhD in history. Dr. Dodou also holds a master's degree in modern and contemporary history from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences and a bachelor's degree in history and archaeology from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Most recently, Dr. Dodou served as a research fellow at Yale University’s Fortunoff Archive and at the Hellenic National Research Foundation.
Dr. Dodou’s research examines the Jewish communities in late Ottoman Macedonia, which were later incorporated into the Greek state, focusing in particular on questions of self-identification and migration. Aspects of her work have been published, among others, in the Journal of Austrian Studies, Pardes, and collective volumes.
Fellowship Research
While at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a Leon and Edith Milman Memorial Fellow, Lida Maria Dodou will conduct research on the postwar trajectories of Jewish DPs from Greece. She will focus particularly on a body of rarely used sources in Judeo-Spanish, seeking to illuminate how gender, linguistic, and confessional affinities, as well as prewar experiences, shaped postwar trajectories.
