Professional Background
Laura Miñano Mañero is an assistant professor in the Department of English and German Philology at the Universitat de València, where she also received her PhD in Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Their Applications, her master’s degrees in Creative and Humanistic Translation, advanced English studies, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and bachelor’s degrees in English studies and in Translation and Interlinguistic Mediation.
Dr. Miñano Mañero’s research focuses on language contact, translation, and interpreting in extreme contexts, postmemory, and the intergenerational transmission of trauma. Her work pays particular attention to descendants of Holocaust survivors, Holocaust literary studies from a gender perspective, and the representation of animals in Holocaust literature. Her doctoral dissertation examined such language contact in Nazi concentration camps and was later published as the book “Contacto de lenguas en espacios extremos: el universo concentracionario”.
Fellowship Research
While at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a Manya Friedman Memorial Fellow, Laura Miñano Mañero will advance her project on silence, voice, and embodied testimony in Sephardic Holocaust testimonies, with particular attention to English, Spanish, and Ladino language oral histories. Her work will combine close listening, transcription, and metadata analysis to examine how gendered violence, trauma, and non-verbal forms of expression are represented—or overlooked—in archival collections.
