An International Response to Prevent Future Genocides

—US Holocaust Memorial Museum

Mary Creagh, British Member of Parliament for Wakefield, reflects upon International Holocaust Memorial Day by noting President Obama’s August 2011 Presidential Directive on Mass Atrocities (external link), as a “bold step to allow the US government to respond quickly to instances of potential mass atrocities and genocide.” In a Huffington Post (UK) article, she references the 2008 report of the Museum co-sponsored Genocide Prevention Task Force chaired by Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of Defense William Cohen. That report, which provided a blueprint for the US government to improve its response to genocide, could, she suggests, be a model for other countries to follow.
