Virtual Writing Group

2024 Virtual Writing Group Call for Applications

The Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is pleased to announce a virtual writing group oriented towards North American-based Holocaust scholars who are untenured, contingent, or working outside of academia. This application-only writing group is designed to support the production of scholarship on the Holocaust and to build an intellectual community, including increased networking opportunities and access to fellow scholars and experts in the field of Holocaust Studies. Participants will receive a $500 stipend for taking part in this writing group.

This program is made possible by the generous support of The Marcus Foundation Inc.

Required Meetings

Participants will meet monthly via Zoom for five months between February and June 2024. All group sessions will take place via Zoom for two hours on Fridays at 11 AM EST on February 23, 2024, March 22, 2024, April 19, 2024, May 17, 2024, and June 7, 2024. Please ensure those meetings fit your schedule before applying.

Participants will take turns sharing written work, which should be provided two weeks in advance of their assigned sessions. That written work may include conference papers, drafts of scholarly articles, book proposals, or chapters of a book manuscript. Each participant is also expected to read each other’s work and provide substantive feedback. While the focus of the group will be on the monthly meetings and review of participant work, the program will also facilitate optional weekly virtual co-writing sessions to provide the space and structure for communal writing.
