What You Do Matters 2020 Risa K. Lambert Chicago Virtual Event

Benefit Event

Noon CT/1 p.m. ET

At this difficult time for our nation—a time for reflection and action—members of the Museum community from Chicago will come together for a virtual tribute event.

The COVID-19 pandemic has rapidly changed much of how the Museum does its work but not why we do it.

Together, we will renew our pledge to ensure that the critical lessons of the Holocaust—lessons about the fragility of freedom, the nature of hate, and the consequences of indifference—help shape the way forward.

This moving experience will feature special guests, inspiring stories, and important messages about the Museum’s role in these challenging times.

Speaker
R. Derek Black was raised in a prominent white supremacist family and spent his teenage years helping his father expand the world’s first online racial hate community, Stormfront. He will discuss why he renounced the white supremacist movement and philosophy he was raised in, and his current work at the University of Chicago exploring the medieval and early modern origins of race, racist ideologies, and antisemitic beliefs.

Honoring
Mally Zoberman Rutkoff, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors, understood the need to connect with others who shared her family's history. Mally served as the first chair of the Children of Survivors group in Chicago and launched the National Children of Survivors trips to Washington, DC. Her children are following in their mother's footsteps as active members of the Museum's Next Generation. Mally has exhibited extraordinary leadership for the Museum and throughout the community.
