Almost 20 years ago, a mysterious photograph album came into the Museum’s collection. The photographs showed Nazis at Auschwitz singing, trimming a Christmas tree, and relaxing at a nearby resort where they enjoyed fresh blueberries. They revealed a side of life never before seen at the notorious death camp—offering a chilling contrast to photographs of Hungarian Jews arriving at Auschwitz during the very same lethal killing period in 1944. The acclaimed, new play Here There Are Blueberries tells the true story of the Museum’s work to unravel the mystery behind the album.
