In the years immediately following World War II, former German generals and other authorities created a myth that the German army fought honorably and had nothing to do with the Nazis' horrible crimes. We now know that the reality was very different. The German army took an active role in crimes, including the Holocaust, that led to death and suffering on a massive scale. Dr. Geoffrey Megargee, a Museum historian, will explain the background to these crimes and describe their extent and consequences.
