Beate and Serge Klarsfeld took bold and dangerous measures to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding accused Nazi criminals and collaborators who were living comfortably after the war. Beate was arrested after she publicly slapped German Chancellor Kurt Georg Kiesinger to draw attention to his Nazi propagandist past. Serge painstakingly compiled evidence to bring perpetrators to justice. Learn about their relentless pursuit of justice, their leadership in the cause of Holocaust remembrance, and their efforts to counter antisemitism. The Klarsfelds are visiting Washington to receive our Museum’s highest honor, the Elie Wiesel Award.
