Fire

By George Salamon

Fire is wonderful, warms up your home, Fire is terrible, destruction, war.  What do I remember about fire? My grandmother’s home, the stove with tile. I came in from the winter, very cold, but I put my back against that warm stove. I remember Colorado winter. We got tired from skiing and fresh air.  It was New Year’s Eve, we made a fire. Lying there was our greatest desire. We planned to watch the ball fall at midnight, instead we fell asleep, slept through the night.
