First Person: Conversations with Holocaust Survivors

Holocaust survivor Andrew “Andy” Jampoler could not possibly remember the day his mother made the heartbreaking decision to leave him on the steps outside a Catholic church. He was just a baby when his mother and grandmother stood out of sight—waiting and watching to make sure someone took him in. Andy’s family had been on the run in Nazi-occupied Poland ever since the day he had been born in January 1942—hiding their Jewish identity to evade capture and likely death. Watch to discover what happened to Andy and his family after that fateful day outside the church.

Submit a question for Andy during the live discussion on Wednesday, September 25, at 1 p.m. ET by signing into your YouTube or Gmail account.

First Person is a monthly, hour-long interview between journalist Bill Benson and a Holocaust survivor on the Museum’s YouTube page, including questions from the audience. This program is made possible through generous support from the Louis Franklin Smith Foundation.
