Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is a chronological narrative bringing visitors through an introspective look at human nature. This internationally acclaimed exhibition tells the story of the largest Nazi camp complex and presents original artifacts from the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum and over 20 collections from around the world that have rarely been seen in the United States.

Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland, consisted of three main camps and a network of some 50 satellite camps at its peak of development. From spring 1942, the concentration camp became at the same time a killing center for Jews. Visitors will explore this history in the four areas of the exhibition: The Encounter, Before Auschwitz, Auschwitz, and After Auschwitz. Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in history and serves as a reminder of the consequences of antisemitism, racism, and hatred.

Auschwitz. Not long ago. Not far away. is hosted by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and created by Musealia together with the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Museum. Its presentation in Washington, DC, is made possible by a generous gift from Allan Holt in honor of his parents and other family members who were imprisoned in Auschwitz.
