Provenance:
- The article states that the list was received for publication by Aufbau from the Rescue Department of the World Jewish Congress in New York, which had received it from the U.S. State Department.
- From September 1, 1944 through September 27, 1946, the German-language newspaper Aufbau, published in New York City, printed numerous lists of Jewish Holocaust survivors, as well as a few lists of victims. These lists, which include 33,557 names in total, were computerized and proofread by staff and volunteers of the Survivors Registry of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. from 1997 to 1999. A searchable database of these names can be found online at http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/holocaust/aufbau.htm. Data compiled from this source is also included in the "USHMM namesearch" online system (Staff Version: http://staff.ushmm.org/namesearch/; Public Version: http://www.ushmm.org/namesearch/) as the data set titled: "Aufbau: A list of the locations of Holocaust survivors and victims from the Aufbau German language publications of the 1940s."

Abstract:
Non-alphabetical name register of 160 Jews (out of 600 total) released from the Bergen-Belsen, Liebenau, and Laufen concentration camps in Germany who possessed U.S. or South American passports. Names of those released from Bergen-Belsen are marked with a star. These 160 persons were the first released from these camps for temporary residence in Switzerland, some of whom were already on their way to the United States aboard the Swedish registry diplomatic exchange ship M.S. Gripsholm. Appended to this register are the names of four persons who had died in Switzerland [i.e. " Die folgenden Personen sind in der Schweiz gestorben"]. Entries include names only.
