Officer Stephen Tyrone Johns was a valued member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum family of staff and volunteers. The outpouring of sympathy following his unnecessary and tragic death shows that he was loved as well as respected. Right now, his family just wants him to be with them, to share in their lives, their graduations and weddings. My husband Roger and I pray, that in time, Officer Johns' family will be heartened that their beloved Stephen Tyrone Johns has the admiration of all who knew him, and of all who commend his bravery in the face of unspeakable evil. He gave his live for his friends in the Holocaust Museum. More than that, he was standing up for the principle that hatred must and will be confronted in this world. We send our sorrowful condolences.

I am a Holocaust Museum volunteer. I feel that an attack on one is an attack on all of us.
We have lost a family member, and mourn with you, but this shows the need to carry on. May we all have the strength to continue our fight to make the world a better place.
With love,
Frank

Let us remember again that "this is where hate leads." Officer Johns died because of hate, and let his example motivate us to work a little harder to eradicate the hate in our hearts, our communities and our world.

I hope Officer John's family will get some comfort from the outpouring of grief for this hero most of us never met. I think people will reach into their wallets to help the family because, sadly, it's the only concrete thing we can do to say "thanks."

I am praying for Officer John's family and the museum family during this time of grief. I have brought my students and family to the museum, and have always felt very good about the security there and the people who work there. I still do, and will not hesitate to make future trips there as well. Officer Johns was truly was a hero.
