    Description
    (LIB 4671) American military activities in Engers, Germany. A soldier directs half-track tanks down the center of town. A German civilian wearing a white armband reads a proclamation while standing astride a bicycle. Soldiers and civilians are visible in the background. German soldiers or Hitler Youth surrendering. 01:54:22 Quality improves. Slate indicates that the date is March 25, 1945 and the cameraman is named Urban. American soldiers walk through the streets of Engers. Nice shots of an American soldier searching Germans. A First Lieutenant swears in two enlisted men as Second Lieutenants. CU of the oath of office as it is administered. The men smile and shake hands. The superior officer removes the sergeant's stripes from one of the soldiers' sleeves.

Civilians carrying belongings walk down the rubble-strewn sidewalk. The civilians are directed into the shelter of a building with a sign that reads Panzer Warnstelle. Some of the men and women smile at the camera. CU of one woman as she talks to one of the soldiers. American soldiers cross a wide open space carrying their guns. A group of civilians surrenders; a white flag is visible. More shots of American soldiers in the streets of the town. Soldiers relax and smoke while sitting in the doorway of a church.
