Stern of the "Rugen" with more British prisoners, German POWs on dockside. British wounded boarding the "Empress of Russia." Swedish ship "Drottningholm" in Gothenburg harbor.     NOTE: The Red Cross exchanged 5,175 totally disabled prisoners of war between Britain and Germany at the port of Gothenburg. Among the vessels used was the Swedish American liner Drottningholm, which sailed October 19 for a British port with 1,362 soldiers. (From December 20, 1943 memo from Leona Carney to James Shute, in NARA files, copy in USHMM files.)
