School #13 was a school for boys in Lodz. The students in #13b attended classes in the afternoon. Most students were between 10 and 15 years old, meaning that they were born between 1926 and 1931.
School #13 was located at Ulica Franciszkańska 29. The street name was changed to Franzstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. You can read more about the schools on Franciszkańska at

User Comment:
I think Srul Hauzer and Chaim-Izrael Hauzer were the same person. Srul is a nickname for Izrael. Also, the ages correspond. There are only three male Hauzers and one male Hauser (List H, pg. 4) that were born between 1926-1933 (the added school ages) on the students name list, and there are only three male Hauzers and one male Hauser on the database that fall into that age range. Of these names, only one of them has any form of Izrael in it, and that is Chaim-Izrael Hauzer.
There are other Izrael Hausers and Hauzers, but only Chaim-Israel falls into the right age range, even with the fuzzy or DM Soundex on. Chaim-Izrael means "life to Israel", so he could have abreviated his name to the common Nickname "Srul".
Expert Reviewer Comment:
I agree this is one possible candidate to have signed this name in the album. Thank you for your research notes-this will help fellow researches. What do you think about Srulek Hauser who also within the school's age range-might he be a possible candidate? Please note that Loewenstadt is not part of the ghetto street address but a town in the Warthegau from which Jews were deported into the Lodz Ghetto.
Good luck for your research!

Did you also look at Srulek Hauser? I agree that either boy is a possible candidate; please enter any names, dates of birth, and addresses you think might apply to anyone who could have signed this name in the album.
User Comment:
By searching the database under the last name Hauser (fuzzy) I found four boys that shared the same basic information. Two were named Srulek (one d.o.b. 17 Dec 1929 and the other dob listed as 1930) and two boys named Srulik (both dob 1930). They share the same general street addresses (Kaufman addresses, Matrosen addresses, and Franz addresses) and the dates of birth and name spellings are so close that I believe that it is possible that all four matches are the same boy.

Thank you for adding other possible candidates to this record. I agree that these records represent the same person. Please note that WEISENHAUS is German for orphanage. This might help you! Good luck for your research!

User Comment:
According to the Lodz Ghetto database, there was one adult woman that shared the same addresses and PRZ date of Srulek. Her name was Gitla (1903) and I believe her to be his mother. There were 2 boys that shared addresses, PRZ date, and occupation, Aron (1933) and Symcha (1932). They were both listed as Schuelers and Weisenhaus Fran. I believe that they were Srulek's brothers. I was unable to find any work information other than a registration date of 01/05/1941. The PRZ date (or movement within the ghetto onto the same street-if I remember correctly) is (06/01/43).
Approver Comment:
I agree this information is correct for Srulek, except for the date of registration for work: we don't know that this date means registered for work, but rather registered in the ghetto. If he was registered for work on that date, he likely would not have been attending school 4 months later when the album was signed.
