Gymnasium and high school for girls
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for girls was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

User Comment:
I believe Chaja Mirjam to be the student that may have signed the album. I also believe that there is a remote possibility that Chaja Mirjam and Mirjam are the same person, but under different names in the database. The birth years are not very far removed. I found both students by searching through the USHMM database using last name only. The first 4 addresses listed are that of Chaja Mirjam, and the last address is that of Mirjam. The first birthday is Chaja's birthday and the second (with only a year) is Mirjam's birthday.
Expert Reviewer Comment:
I agree that Mirjam Szternberg is possibly the student who signed the album. In 1941 she would have been 14 years old, the right age to attend the Gymnasium and highschool for girls.
I also believe that Mirjam Szternberg and Mirjam Szterenberg are the same person because they lived at the same ghetto street address and were born in the same year. You will find her searching the database with a "fuzzy" search for the last name.
I wouldn't necessarily say that that Mirjam and Chaja Mirjam are the same person, because both their addresses and their date of birth are different. Also, Chaja Mirjam's occupation is "Schneiderin" whereas Mirjam's record indicates that she was a "Schuelerin" (student).
The notes field Mirjam Szterenberg might be interesting for your research on this student. Best of luck in the next stages!
