User Comment:
Ghetto Address: BLEI 1 40
Ghetto Address: SULZF 53

- Since there are two addresses listed, he moved at some point

- The name does not exactly match, the original is Mordechai Landau, this is Mordcha Landau. However, we feel confident that this could be the same person because of his date of birth and similar spelling of the name (there is no Mordcha on the student list) and Mordcha is listed as a student in the data base.

I think there is a strong likelihood that you are correct. And at first, I marked your entry as "confirmed." However, I subsequently performed a search for just "M. Landau." This turned up an additional entry for "Mordka Josef Landau" born May 7, 1931. Mordka was deported, probably to his death at Chelmno on March 10, 1942 (transport 23/2).

Mordcha (or Mordka) is a common short version of Mordechai. Both Mordcha and Mordka were born in the right age range to have been a student in School #1, and Mordcha's occupation is listed as "schueler."

There is also an additional entry (probably for the same Mordcha) under the name Mordcha Lande. Lande was born on 01/xx/1927 and lived at Sulzf 63 flat 36 (one of the addresses may be a typo; either Sulzf 53 or 63). He, too, is a schueler. And he moved to or from BLEI 1 on October 5, 1942. This last date is important because, if you look at the secondary sources, you will see that the last major deportations in 1942 to Chelmno ended the month before. Having escaped those deportations, it increases the likelihood that Mordcha may have survived, at least until the ghetto liquidation of 1944.

Please add this additional information into the data fields in addition to what you already have. As you can see, we do not yet know whether Mordechai Landau was Mordcha (who was alive in October 1942) or Mordka (who was killed in March 1942).

Keep up the good research, and exhaust your options.
