Gymnasium and high school for boys
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for boys was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

I found Roman Knicker (now Roman Kent) on Echoes and Reflection, a Multi-Media Curriculum on the Holocaust. Here is provided his testimony to his experience in the Holocaust.

Good research. There is little doubt that this is Roman Kniker. However, it would be helpful if you included the pdf file with Roman's story in your source listing. Thank you!
User Comment:
Given what is already confirmed about Roman, it appears that he was recorded in the ghetto records under the names Rommel and Ramuel since the last name and birth date are exact matches. Now we have his street address, too. He is listed as being a student.

User Comment:
Once he was liberated, Roman found out that his mother died at Auschwitz. His sisters were alive in Sweden. Roman and Leon flew to Sweden to meet up with their sisters. Dasza died a few months later. Roman and Leon immigrated to the United States. Roman attended Emory University. He then moved to New York and changed his last name to Kent becuase it was easier to pronounce. Leon became a neurosurgeon, but then died a few years later. Roman married his wife, Hannah in 1957. He now has two children and three grandchildren.

User Comment:
The WJC records list Roman's name as Romek, but the birthdate and birth place are identical. It also confirms that he was sent from Aushcwitz to Flossenbuerg.

I agree that based on the similarity of the names and the exact date of birth and place match, this record refers to Roman Kniker who signed the album. Excellent work, and thank you for confirming the deportation to Flossenburg in the previous stage. You can complete a biography for Roman now, if you wish.
