School #23
School #23 was a school for girls and boys in Lodz. Students were between 8 and 20 years old (most were 9-14), meaning that they were born between 1921 and 1933.
School #23 was located at Ulica Jagiellonska 16. The street name was changed to Bertholdstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. You can read more about Ulica Jagiellonska and the rest of the Lodz Ghetto at

User Comment:
Putting 'Balberman' in the fuzzy category of name searches, I came up with many results. However, I concluded that Golda Balbermann was the closest because 1) she was born in 1929, the right age to have signed the book, and 2) because the name was only one letter off, and the closest match.
There was also a Gesia Balbermann (b. 1924) that came up from the Czestochowa Forced Laborers database, so we cannot be sure, however I think it was Golda that signed the book.
Approver Comment:
I agree that this is the only G. Balberman(n) that appears in the inhabitants database. You can list Gesia Balberman as a given name in the appropriate stage associated with the Czestochowa Forced Laborers resources, but only if we can associate that name with Lodz directly.
Please note that Hamburgerstrasse is listed as an A.M. address, meaning that Golda lived at that address before and immediately after the creation of the ghetto. Best of luck in the next stages!

User Comment:
Blima (b. 1891) was, I think, Golda's mother (but could be her aunt as well), and her siblings were Perla (b. 1916, although given the age difference, perhaps a cousin?), Rywka (b. 1921), Berta (b. 1927), and Dworja (b. 1932).
They all have the same deportation date, March 17, 1942, which was during the month of daily deportations to Chelmno.

I agree that you have found Golda's family. Deportations in March 1942 would indeed have gone to Chelmno. Thank you for helping to complete Golda's record.
