Gymnasium and high school for boys
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for boys was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

User Comment:
I searched the database under the exact setting for the first initial "A" and the last name Kahane. It returned two entries for the same boy. I was able to figure out that both entries for Aleksander Kahane applied to the same boy based on the fact that the date of birth and addresses listed under both entries were identical, as was the speeling of the first and last name. On one of the entries (the first one that comes up) there is a date of 16.06.43 listed, but no notes associated with it. On the second entry, there is a moving date from the Zimmer to the Sulz address. THis date is 31.05.43.
Approver Comment:
I agree that this is the most likely candidate to have signed this name in the album. The dates indicate that he survived the Gehsperre action of September 1942, which resulted in the transport of over 15,000 Jews, mostly children (under the age of 10), the elderly and the infirm, to their death in Chelmno. Please enter the dates into the appropriate fields on the next stage. Thanks & good luck with your research!
