Good job. I believe you have made the most likely match for Szmuel Gerszt. However, since the database lists several people with this name, and at least one other Szmul Gerszt born within the age range to make him a possible student in School #1 (born in 1928), I'll have to mark your submission as "possible" rather than "confirmed" until we can find more data to narrow down our options. Otherwise, quite well done!

The date of transportation (October 7, 1942) seems puzzling because according to the USHMM Lodz Ghetto timeline, there were no major transports between September 1942 and May 1944.

Again, very good research. You are correct that there were no major transports from Lodz to Chelmno during this period; however, there were some transports from the ghetto to other camps. In fact, according to the secondary sources, there was a transport from Lodz to Auschwitz on October 14, 1942. Perhaps such a transport left on October 7th, too?!? Someone should continue the research through stages 3-5 on Szmul's name to see if he wound up in Auschwitz or elsewhere.
