Student Profile:
R. Mejer
Gender: girl
School:
Gymnasium and high school for girls
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for girls was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

User Comment:
Using the database, we found:
Ghetto Address: ALTMARKT 6 10
Ghetto Address: ZIEGEL 10
This leads us to believe that she changed location at some point.
Ginesza Mejer was born on July 25, 1929 and shares all of Rywka Rachela Mejer's address information so we believe that she is her younger sister.

Out of all the R. Majer/Mayer/Mejer/Meiers in the database, I think you've found the one who signed the album. (The only other possibility I see is Ruth Meier, born in 1921; the similarity of Meier and Mejer makes her a candidate, but she is listed in two records as a "Haustochter" and "Hausverwalter," rather than a student.) Born in 1925, Rywka would have been 16 in September 1941, an appropriate age to be attending Gymnasium. Good job!
Thanks as well for including her addresses in the ghetto. Why do you think she would have changed location?
I agree that Ginesza Mejer would be a female relative to Rywka--a sister or cousin--because of her age and the shared address. When I went to check your research, I discovered a Ginesza Meyer at Altmarkt 6 10 as well, also born in 1929 but listed as having been born on November 20. Either way, Rywka probably had a younger sister or cousin named Ginesza who was 11 or 12 in September 1941.
I'm going to mark this stage as "Confirmed"--great job and I'm looking forward to reading more of your research!

I agree that it is possible that Jankiel and Sura Mejer were Rywka Mejer's parents. Their dates of birth (1894 and 1896, respectively) make them an appropriate age to have had a child in 1925, and they are both listed at the same address as Rywka. Additionally, Sura and Rywka are both listed as having been deported on Transport 40/2, further suggesting a relationship between the two.
I'm going to mark this stage as "confirmed," but in the future, in the comment field please walk us through the steps you used to determine a student's parents so that your classmates can understand and respond to your train of thought. Thanks!
See you in stage 3!
