Gender: boy
School:
School #20A
School #20 was a school for boys in Lodz. The students in #20a attended classes in the morning. Most students were between 8 and 13 years old, meaning that they were born between 1928 and 1933.
School #20 was located at Ulica Jakuba 10. The street name was changed to Rembrandtstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. You can read more about Ulica Jakuba at

User Comment:
There are two children named Fajwisz Kutner in the ghetto, however I have ruled out the one born 1925 on the basis that he is too old for school #20A, whereas the one born 1931 is the correct age according to the description of the school.
Note that this is an "A.M." address, meaning that he lived at this address before and immediately after the creation of the ghetto.

I agree that this is the correct Fajwisz Kutner, since, as you suggest, the other possibility would have been too old to attend school #20a.

User Comment:
People with the same last name at the same address are assumed to be Fajwisz's family. There is some confusion with the addresses however: several family members are listed as living at Hohensteiner Strasse
24 Flat 28 as well as at Hohensteiner Strasse 24 Flat 29 which is the only address for Fajwisz. Thus it appears that there was either some confusion as to the number of the flat, or an error in entering the data. Alter Lajb's address is only given as Hohensteiner Strasse 24 Flat 28, however I am going to assume that he is Fajwisz's father because there are no other KUTNERs at that address, and because of the confusion that was evident in the family's address. Finally, Fajwisz's Work Identfication Card states that his address is Hohensteiner Strasse
24 Flat 28
Fajwisz's Work Identification Card confirms his year of birth and address. It states that he was an apprentice tailor. The Lodz Ghetto List states that his mother Rywka Perla died December 27, 1942. Unfortunately there are no dates on the Work ID card so it is impossible to know how long he survived in the ghetto based on that.

There are many reasons why 12 year olds were working, not least of all the fact that the schools were closed later in the fall of 1941. We see many students younger than 12 who were working as well.
I look forward to seeing what you find in the next stages.
