User Comment:

There were no results that showed up for an exact search for Rywcia (which I assumed was a nickname for Rywka) Mezenberg, but there were an overwhelming amount that showed up for a fuzzy search. Searching using the DM Soundex tool narrowed the search significantly to two results, a Mesenberg and a Messenberg. Since they were born in the same year and had the same first name, I concluded that this was the same person, and since Rywka was born in 1930, this would have made her the right age to have attended School #8B. This is how I came to narrow the search down to this one girl and conclude that she is the one that signed the album.

I do agree you have found the student who signed the book and agree with your reasoning! Minor spelling differences can be a result of translation mistakes or simply that the handwriting was difficult to read. According to the Given Names Database Rywka and Rywcia are two versions of the same name. Both records seem to represent the same student. Good work!

User Comment:

Because Rywka had profiles with her last name spelled both Mesenberg and Messenberg, my search for her relatives included both last names. All of her relatives lived at the same Alexanderhofstrasse address as Rywka, but for a lot of them, the second address difffered. In addition, it was impossible to tell at times which family member was part of the immediate family or extended family. Rywka lived with two possible father figures, Pinkus Mesenberg (b. 1885), and Abram Pinkus Messenberg (b. 1885). Even though their names were similar, they had differering years of birth, which made me unsure whether or not they were the same person, or if one was her father and one her uncle.
There were also three possibilities for Rywka's mother, including Chana (b. 1887), Estera (b. 1902), and Nomi (b. 1890). Rywka had two siblings, Menasze (b. 1922), and Ruchla (despite having two differing birth years, 1919 and 1917, I think they might be the same person).

Rywka, Chana, Ruchla, and Abram all were deported on March 15, 1942, during the month of daily deportations to Chelmno. Estera, Nomi, and Pinkus all did not have information listed regarding their fate. Menasze either moved or was deported on May 16, 1941.

Thank you for adding her family to the record. Given the deportation date we have to assume that she was killed in Chelmno. Thank you for your research!
