Gymnasium and high school for girls
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for girls was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

Good job! Note that she also moved from Gdanska 61 in Lodz to Hohensteiner Strasse 24 Flat 4 in the ghetto.

User Comment:
There are two separate testimonies submitted by Gabriela Markus' cousins, Yosef Ashpiz in 1957 and Pola Varshavski Einhorn in 1999 in the Yad Vashem Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names.
Her mother is listed as Zhenia Markus in one testimony and Eugenia Markus in the other testimony.
Approver Comment:
One of the testimonies also identifies her father as being named Paul. Both indicate that she died at Auschwitz in 1944. One of the testimonies claims it was August 1944, which is when the ghetto was liquidated. Approximately, 2/3 of Lodz ghetto Jews arriving at Auschwitz in August 1994 were killed on arrival. However, if Gabriela was 20 years old, and if she was healthy, there is a chance she may not have been killed immediately. Although it is likely that her cousins have provided accurate information, without additional supporting evidence, I will list this data for the moment as "possible."
