School #5 was a school that taught both boys and girls. Most students were between 7 and 15 years old, meaning that they were born between 1926 and 1934.
School #5 was located at Ulica Limanoskiego 45. The street name was changed to Alexanderhof when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Ulica Limanoskiego and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

User Comment:
Schueler is in the male form, but it says that this person is a female. Her address given is: Blattbinderstrasse 32 and Cranachstrasse 34 31.
According to the database Brandla was her middle name, but when we pressed the "it sounds like button" Branjdla came up as a possible other name, so thats why we continued researching Branjdla Manela.
Approver Comment:
I think you're right that Brajndla might be the Bronia we're looking for--born in 1928, Brajndla would have been just the right age to be in School #5. I've gone ahead and changed the gender from "unknown" to "girl," since Brajndla (and Bronia) is a name given to female children (the reason for the "unknown" genders in School #5 is that it's the only mixed-gender school we currently have posted to the website. I'll be updating the genders as my time allows over the next few weeks).
Two comments, though:
-Since it isn't readily apparent that Bronia and Brajndla might be the same person, would you mind walking us through your thought process in the comments? How did you decide Brajndla might be Bronia? Also, go ahead and add her addresses (Blattbinderstrasse 32 and Cranachstrasse 34 31) to the comment field.
-Be careful of your spelling: "Brajndla" is the name in the database, not "Branjdla," and her occupation is listed as "Schueler" rather than "Shueler"--this makes it easier for your classmates and I to follow and duplicate your research.
Unfortunately, due to the misspelling I have to mark this entry as "Invalid," but as soon as you resubmit the entry I can approve it. Thanks--see you in stage 2!
ED: Thanks for the corrections and the addresses. This stage is confirmed!

User Comment:
Abram Mendel Manela worked as a Schneider (a tailor)
Approver Comment:
I agree that Abram Mendel Manela, the tailor, is quite likely to have been Brajndla's father; since he was born in 1899, it is possible that he could have had a 13-year-old daughter in 1941. The fact that they have the same address further confirms this possibility.
I see that you left a note about Brajndla's mother in the forum--would you mind moving some of that information to the comment box here so we can see your reasoning?
Two other people I want you to check out are Berek and Lajzer Mendel, who also lived at Cranach 34 31. I'm not really sure what to make of their story; maybe you can help? Looking forward to seeing what you think about the information on them in the database.
This stage is confirmed.
