Gymnasium and high school for girls
Gymnasium and high school students were typically between 14 and 20 years old. A gymnasium student in September 1941 was likely born between 1921 and 1927.
The gymnasium and high school for girls was located on Otylii. The street name was changed to Ottilienstrasse when German occupation began in 1939. See
www.lodz-ghetto.com for a map of Otylii and the rest of the Lodz ghetto.

Approver Comment:
Balbina Weinberg moved from Litzmannstadt 36 in Lodz, Poland to Reiter Strasse 23 Flat 10 in the ghetto on September 20, 1943. This date is important, because it means that Balbina survived the massive deportations to Chelmno in 1942. By 1943, she was 20 years old, and was likely to be working as a slave laborer.

User Comment:
Sharit Ha Platah has a listing for Pett-Bella Weinberg born in Lodz in 1923. This is almost certainly Balbina Pett Weinberg from Lodz and born in the same year. The same record lists her wartime location as "Salzburg" suggesting that perhaps she may have wound up in Mauthausen or elsewhere in Austria. Her last known location is listed as "Kammer." I'm not quite sure what to make of that.
The WJC records also list a Bela Weinberg from Poland born in 1923. Her father is listed as Zew, and her mother as Sura. However, it is unclear if this is the same person as our Balbina.
