Adela Biderman was deported on April 24, 1942 and on transport 39. More information will be research under "The Ghetto" tab.

How We Found Adela Biderman:

When I first typed in Adela Biderman's name, the single search result came up. Luckily, the date of birth given for that Adela Biderman was in the year of 1928, which was within the date range of the Adela Biderman who signed the album. I also saw the occuaption of the Adela Biderman that showed up on the search result and it was student. Lastly, the address for the Adela Biderman int he search result matched the school address of the Adela Biderman who signed the Album.

Adela Biderman also had a record of a transport number and date, but that date did not match any of the date of deportation on the seocndary source records. However, her deportation date falls between two of the recorded deportations to Chelmno, so it is possible to deduce that she may have perished in the gas vans to Chelmno. More information is under "The Ghetto" tab.

Great work. I agree you have found the student who signed the album. In 1941, she would have been 13 years old, the right age to attend school #10b. Thanks for adding an explanation of your research process to the Notes field. Like you, I find it interesting that she lived so close the school she attended (good catch!). I look forward to seeing what you have to say in the next stage!
Stage 2: The Ghetto
Transport #:
39
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
User Comments:

Adela Biderman's transport number was 39, and her transport date was April 4, 1942. According to the timeline of deportations and transports, there were 2 deportations near her date. One was from April 1-2, and the prisoners were deported to Chelmno and all perished in the gas vans. The other transport near her date was on May 4-15, which also went to Chelmno where all the prisoners died in the gas vans. Her fate is unknown at the moment and it is uncertain whether the date of her transport was accurate to the records shown. Is it plausible to assume that she may have perished in the gas vans to Chelmno?

While you have correctly entered the transport number (which is why I'm confirming your submission), you have incorrectly entered the transport date in your Notes. She was deported on April 24, 1942 (ie, not April 4). Please re-submit this stage with the correct date entered in the "Date deported/transferred" field. While it is possible that Adela was deported to Chelmno, we simply do not have enough evidence at this point to say for sure.
Stage 3: Labor Camps
Camp Deported/Transferred to:
Chelmno, Poland
Secondary Sources
User Comments:

After looking through the secondary sources records, we've concluded that Adela probably perished in the gas vans that were traveling to Chelmno on the two dates near her own deportation (April 24, 1942), which were April 1-2 and May 4-15.

***UPDATE***
I am now marking your research as CONFIRMED based on the transport number included with Adela's record in the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants Database. According to the Chronicle of the Lodz Ghetto (a record compiled by Jewish leaders in the Lodz ghetto, and subsequently published after the war), "... transport No. 39 left on April 1 and transport No. 40... left on April 2. Together those transports included 2,349 deportees." It seems very likely that Adela was on one of these transports, and her actual transport date was probably April 1 or 2, 1942. Please go back to Stage 2 and add the transport date of April 24, 1942 with the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants database as the source. In addition, add the transport date of April 1, 1942 and place of death as Chelmno with Chronicle of the Lodz Ghetto as the alternate source. Well done!

I am marking your research as 'possible' even though April 24, 1942 is not recorded as a date of deportations from Lodz to Chelmno in the secondary source literature. As you allude to in your Stage 2 notes, it is possible that her deportation date was not accurately recorded. In addition, most of the times I've seen a transport number recorded, it has usually been going to Chelmno. I'll see if I can find any information about transport 39. Perhaps this number will be a useful clue. In the meantime, I can tell you that (according to the Chronicle of the Lodz Ghetto) there were forced mass medical examinations in the ghetto between April 20-25 which, among other things, determined who was fit for work. These examinations caused significant anxiety in the ghetto, and people tried to avoid reporting for them. On April 23rd, 147 people left the Lodz ghetto for the Warsaw ghetto on large trucks. None of this proves or disproves your theory that Adela was sent to Chelmno. It is just additional context.

Keep up the research... Try to prove yourself wrong. Is there any evidence that Adela was NOT sent to Chelmno?
