User Comments:

From the list of students that signed the album, we chose to research G. Najman. From the student profile we found that G. Najman attended Gymnasium and High School for Boys and was born between 1921 and 1927.Therefore, G. Najman had to be between the ages of 14 and 20 in 1941. After researching G. Najman in the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants database we found 36 possible matches for G. Najman. Using the process of elimination we were able to find that G. Najman's birth name is Godel Najman and was born on 10 June 1927. We concluded this because 35 of the 36 names were either female or not in the correct date of birth range, 1921 to 1927. Therefore, we believe that G. Najman’s Given name is Godel Najman and e was born on 10 June 1927.

Your explanation is marvelous--complete, accurate, and very easy to follow. I agree entirely with your conclusions. Also note his address: Hohensteinstrasse 80 #13. Great work, thank you!
Stage 2: The Ghetto
Camp Deported/Transferred to:
Chelmno, Poland
Hospital, Labor, Deportation, and Administrative Records from the Lodz Ghetto
User Comments:

We believe that G. Najman was deported to Chelmo, Poland and had the transfer number of 5. We believe this to be true because when researching G. Najman in the Hospital, Labor, Deportation, and Administrative Records of the Lodz Ghetto we found 36 possibilities. from that list there was only one name, Godel Najman, that fit the correct date of birth range of 1921 to 1927. Therfore we selected Godel Najman and under the Ghetto Notes for him we found AUSG TR 5. Therfore, Godel Najman was deported to Chelmo and had the transfer number of 5.

Most transport numbers do refer to transports to Chelmno, although without a date of deportation we cannot know for sure. I think you're probably right, and the "camp deported to" is correct. What other information can you find?

the Lodz Ghetto was liquidated and there was a renew of deportations to the extermination camp chelmno on January 16, 1942. fron January 16, 1942 through May 1942 there were about 54,000 Lodz Jews killed. 15,00 people, mostly children, the elderly, and the sick, were deported to Chelmno in September 1942, even though there were no deportations to chelmno in the summer. After that, there were no deportatins to chelmno until June 1944. in JUne 1944, the liquidation of the Lodz Ghetto began. Between June 1923 and July 14, 1944, 7,200 people were sent to there deaths at Chelmno. from this information, i find that 76,200 people were sent to there deaths at Chelmno between January 1942 and July 1944.

Godel Najman would have been 15 in September 1942 when the 15,000 people were sent from the Ghetto. therefore, i believe that he was not apart of this group unless he was sick (mostly children, elderly, and sick were deported at this time). Based on the fact that have not been able to find information or records stating that Godel Najman made it out of Chelmno alive, I believe that he was most like;y within the group of 76,200 people killed in chelmno. Therfore, the most likely death dates for Godel Najman were either between January 16, 1942 and May 1942, or during the Liquidation of the Lodz Ghetto between June 23 and July 14, 1944.

From this information, is there anything else you can tell me? Is there anything else i can do to verify this information?

Thank you for including all of the information you did about the history in this stage. We have in the records a transport number, an address, and a date of birth--and that's it. We have found from previous research that not having information doesn't mean someone died, or was killed--sometimes it just means the record wasn't made, or we haven't found it yet. I agree that it is highly likely that he was deported to Chelmno, since we do have a transport number, but we cannot conjecture as to when (other than, as you say, a general range of dates). He might have been sent in September 1942 as part of the Gehsperre Aktion (it's possible, since this research is helping us to understand better who was deported then); he might have been deported in 1944. Either way, that's all we know; we can speculate based on what we know from other cases, but we cannot say for sure.

Thank you for your curiosity and your excellent work on piecing together the secondary source materials; I wish we had more information on Godel so we could verify one way or another.
