User Comments:

In this stage we found a third possibility is named Michal- Sz Kac and his date of birth is in 1926. His address is BD Str. 19. He is listed as dead in the Lodz Ghetto Hospital Death Records and his cause of death is Enterocolitis chron. The first Michal Kac that we researched is in the Lotz-Names: A Record Of The 240,000 Inhabitants Of The Lotz Ghetto. There is nothing listed next to his name, so don’t know whether he was deported or not. Michal Szulim Kac is also in the Lotz-Names: A Record Of The 240,000 Inhabitants Of The Lotz Ghetto. Under his notes, it states WYM 27.11.42, which means there was a change of registration to a new address. His address is Sulzf 19. For the first two Michal’s there was no information under his name under the Lodz Ghetto Labor Cards. Under the “Auschwitz Death Books” there was nothing for Michal Kac or Michal Szulim Kac. Under “Prisioner Lists from Forced Labor Camps,” we searched both Michal’s and under Michal Kac using “DM Soundex” a few names came up, but none of the names matched the birthdays of either boy we are researching. Under “Prisoner Registration Transport and Death Lists”, we found someone who’s birthday is three years later than the boy’s researching, however it still fits in the range of possible birthdays. This Michal Kac was born in March 8, 1929. His birthplace was Litzmannstadt and his occupation was a schüler and his persecution category was Pole Jude (Jew). His prisoner number was 124893 and his date of arrival was January 30, 1945. Other notes under this Michal Kac include “Mauthausen from Auschwitz.” The source is reel 11_1-30-1945- KL Ausw to KL Maut. We were confused as to the source of it. We didn’t for sure if it was “Jews from Lotz arriving at Mauthausen” or “Mauthausen Gusen Death Book.” Next, we searched under “Prisoner Registration, Transport and Death List,” and found that a majority of transports came to Mathausen came from evacuated camps to Mauthausen in early 1945, especially from Auschwitz and a few other camps. This causes Mauthausen to become overcrowded which lead to starvation and terrible conditions becoming worse. Starvation and disease including typhus lead to the death of many prisioners. Of the 197,464 prisoners in Mauthausen between 1938 and May 1945, around 102,765 are believed to have died. The camp liberated May 5, 1945. We suspect that Michal Kac was at Mauthausen for around five months. When we searched for Michal Szulim Kac there were no results.

Thanks for adding this record. We still don't know if this is the person who signed the album, but thank you for adding him as another possible candidate. Can you add the record out of the hospital records to stage 2?
