Upon searching the student's name in the database, only one match is returned. Based on the individual's age and name, we are fairly secure in assertion that this student is a match.

We speculate that the record for Nechama Smetana, though it lists a different year of birth, is a record for Nechama Smietana. The addresses, date of deportation, and date of birth (save the year) match that of Nechama Smietana. If the records are handwritten, as we would expect, the writing may have been illegible. The "9" of 1939 could perhaps even be a sloppily written "3." Since so much of the information matches between the records, we believe that the difference in years must be an input error, either on the part of the original record keeper or on the part of whomever entered the information into the database.
It is also important to note that Nechama Smetana has her occupation listed as "Schulerein" or "Student." If she was born in 1939, she would not have been old enough to be a student at the time of the records collection. She would only have been three years old at the time of her deportation (20.07.42) and would, therefore, not be listed as "Schulerein."
When examining the records of the Lodz Ghettto List Database on JewishGen.org, we discovered that the date listed on Nechama Smietana's record (20.07.42) is the date of her deportation. The record in the database shows that Nechama and her mother were both registered for work on 14.07.42 and then deported on 20.07.42. However, according to the Secondary Sources, no specific deportation took place on 20.07.42. This leads us to believe that Nechama and her mother were sent to Chelmno on an undocumented deportation.
