Student's Given Name:
Tauba Rachela Podemska
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
Birth Date:
1931-12-14
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
Ghetto Street Address:
Brunnenstrasse, 15, 23
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
User Comments:

There is an inconsistency with the middle name of the girl. The original middle name is Rachel and the name that comes up on our search is Rachela. Because the first and the last name are the same, we are assuming it is the same person.

Rachela is a common alternate spelling for Rachel that we see quite often in research done in this project. The name signed in the album is not always exactly the same as the one that comes up in the database. Tauba Rachela Podemska, born in 1931, would have been 10 years old in 1941, the right age to attend school #7a.

In the next stages, keep an eye out for the date in the ghetto note: 25.3.42. Good work on this stage--I'm looking forward to seeing what you find next.
Stage 2: The Ghetto
Sibling's Names:
Rywen Podemska
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
Change of Address:
1942-03-25
Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants
User Comments:

The change of address is recorded as March 25, 1942. There were daily deportations to Chelmno in March 1942 and we were unable to find any testimonies or records of her after 1942. The people sent to Chelmno in March were all exterminated in the gas vans leading us to believe that was her fate.

Rywen Podemska has the same address( Brunnenstraße 15 23) and same last name as Tauba. Also, they have the same deportation date to Chelmno (March 25 1942). Therefore, we believe that Rywen Podemska and Tauba Rachel Podemska are siblings.

I agree that Rywen is likely to be Tauba's brother, for the reasons you list.

I agree this likely correlates with a deportation to Chelmno. User birponcz posited this idea in his discussion note on this stage, and I tend to agree with his and your reasoning here--while the date could be a change of address, it is more likely that Tauba was, unfortunately, deported in one of the deportations that occurred daily in March of 1942. If you think this is probably correct, you can go ahead and enter this information (date of deportation, camp deported to, and place of death) in the appropriate fields, citing your sources accordingly. Thank you for helping to complete Tauba's record.
