The information found is from the database provided, and we found the name by checking "sounds like" for the first name. The street name-Buchbind- of where Szmul lived matches a relative location of where School #1 was, and Szmul's age is in the appropriate age range for the kids who attended School #1.

Emma raises an excellent point. Which date of birth do we think is correct?

There is a possible connection between Chemia Szmidt and Szmul because Chemia lived at Buchbind 17 as well, and he moved to Kranich 13 22. His occupation was a "Klempner," and it says that he might have been moved or sent to Chelmno on July 28, 1944. He was born in 1925. Laja Szmidt also lived in Buchbind 17, and she was born in 1898. She also moved to Kranich 13 22 and either changed locations or was sent to Chelmno on July 28, 1944. Her occupation was a "schneider." Under a different person (although I strongly believe they are the same person because of the same birth year, addresses, and occupation), it states that her maiden name was Laja Grundman.

Another possible resident is Rachmil Szmidt, who was born in 1928 and was registered as a "schueler." He lived in Buchbind 17 as well, and he also moved to Kranich 13 22. Along with the rest of their family, it states that he was either moved or sent to Chelmno to the gas vans on July 28, 1944.

I agree that all of these people were likely related. Can you figure out the relationships?

If we search in the database on this stage for "Szmidt" with the "sounds like" box checked, we also find entries for Chemia b. 1925, Rachmil b. 1928, and Laja (b. 1894 this time) under the list "Lodz Ghetto deportations to the Chelmno Extermination Camp." Unfortunately, these documents make clear what happened on June 28, 1944. You are welcome to enter the information into the fields on this stage.
