I've found that performing general Web searches can be useful.

For example, I wanted to confirm that a girl who went by the name Bronka might actually be named Bronislawa. When I did a Google search on the two names, it became clear that, Bronka was a common nickname for Bronislawa.

I have a copy of Andrzej Strzelecki's book, _The Deportation of Jews from the Lodz Ghetto to KL Auschwitz and Their Extermination_. This book was published by the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in 2006. Strzelecki did an enormous amount of research, and he provides data on several individual Jews sent from Lodz to Auschwitz. If you find evidence suggesting that your research subject was deported to Auschwitz, let me know, and I'll check to see if I can find his or her name in Strzelecki's book.
