Tomek Znamirowski (who was my father in law) proper name was Tanchum Znamirowski. He was sent to Auschwitz and then transferred to Gorlitz in Germany. He survived the Holocaust.

After he was liberated, he went back to Lodz, decided there was nothing left there and went back to Gorlitz. Eventually, he began working the the Bricha to smuggle Jews into Palestine until he emigrated himself.

His ship was intercepted by the British and he spent nine months interned in the Childrens Camp in Cyprus. He was released, went to Palestine, married (one of the young women he had help smuggle into Palestine) and had two children. He served in the IDF, became a member of Chaver Eged (the bus company) and in the early 1960's moved to the United States. When he became a US citizen his name was legally changed to "Teddy".

In the United States he participated in the US government prosecution of Jacob Tannenbaum a Jewish capo who was eventually stripped of his citizenship, gave oral testimony to the Holocaust Museum and/or Steven Spielberg's project and was eventually reunited with cousins who were also in the Lodz Ghetto, one of them being Ruth Sender also known as the "Holocaust Lady" who wrote a series of books including "The Cage". He died in October 2013 and one of his grandchildren wrote a novelized version of his life called "Remember Your Name".
