I am researching a student and have hit a wall. does anyone know a source that can be used or anything that can help me decide whether Zajf stands for a different last name?

According to jewishgen.org, There are a few other names that are similar to Zajf. I found Jaffe, Sajf, Zajfe, SChaff, Schaffe, Saff, Scheff, Scheibe, Schiff, Seif, Seife, Schiff, Szaff, Szajb, Szajbe, Szief, Zief, and Zajfe. I used the DM Soundex search on jewishgen to pull up all of the possible matches for something similar to the last name. Hope that this is helpful!
