Abstract:
- Keyword-searchable catalog of the archival holdings of the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen, Germany. Both "Basic" and "Advanced" search (with field-specific and some boolean search capabilities) methods are offered.
- The documents described in this database are being electronically scanned as images, which are then being made available to the public as these collections arrive via an online search and display system available in several locations within the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. known as the 'OuS-Archiv' system (developed by Ossenberg und Schneider GmbH of Remagen, Germany). Since January 2008, that section of ITS archival materials concerning incarceration (i.e. records of deportations, concentration camps, prisoner registrations, transfers, deaths, arrests, etc.) has been available. The remainder of the ITS collections, including records relating to displaced persons camps, forced labor, the contents of tracing and documentation claim case files (i.e. known as "T/D/ files") and so forth, are already slated to be transferred and made available in installments arriving between 2008 and 2010.
- At present, owing to legal and technical issues, there is no direct access to the records described in this International Tracing Service Inventory Search catalog possible via the Internet. However, as of July 2008, the most recent version of this catalog, available only within the local USHMM Computer Network (requires login), features active links to scans of such documents described in the catalog as have already arrived in Washington.
