Mr. Grant Harward

Professional Background

Grant Harward is currently a PhD candidate in Modern European History at Texas A&M University. He holds an MA in History of the Second World War in Europe from the University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom). As the Norman Raab Foundation Fellow Fellow, Mr. Harward will be conducting research for his project entitled “Holy War: The Romanian Army, Motivation, and the Holocaust.”

Mr. Harward is fluent in Romanian and has reading abilities in German.

Mr. Harward is the author of several academic articles. He wrote “Purifying the Ranks: Ethnic and Minority Policy in the Romanian Armed Forces during the Second World War” in Studies in Ethnicity and Nationalism (13(2) October 2013) as well as his most recent “Eastern European Memory and Reflections on Romania” in the Auschwitz Jewish Center E-Newsletter (Spring 2014). Mr. Harward is also the winner of various awards and fellowships.

Fellowship Research

While in residence at the Mandel Center, Mr. Harward researched the crimes of the Romanian army against Jews, Roma, and Soviet Civilians. He used the museum’s various collections, including the Romanian Special Intelligence Service collection.

Mr. Harward was in residence at the Mandel Center until December 31, 2017.
