Ms. Danielle Willard-Kyle

Professional Background

Danielle Willard-Kyle is currently PhD Candidate at Rutgers University. She holds an MA in Jewish Studies from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and an MA in History from the University of Toronto (Canada). As the Ben and Zelda Cohen Fellow, Ms. Willard-Kyle will be conducting research for her project entitled “Living in Liminal Spaces: Refugees in Italian Displaced Persons Camps, 1945-1951".

A native English speaker, Ms. Willard-Kyle possesses language skills in Italian, Spanish, Yiddish, and French.

Ms. Willard-Kyle has been a presenter at many conferences. Her most recent presentation was entitled “A Future of Their Own: Children’s Choices in Italian Displaced Persons Camps” at the 38th Annual Susman Graduate Conference at Rutgers University in 2016. She will be presenting at the World Congress of Jewish Studies in August 2017.

Fellowship Research

While in residence at the Mandel Center, Ms. Willard-Kyle researched refugees from Eastern Europe and North Africa who lived in the Displaced Persons camps of Italy after the war. She used the museums various collections, especially focusing on the International Tracing Service.

Ms. Willard-Kyle was in residence at the Mandel Center until September 30, 2017.
