Ms. Jehanne Dubrow

Professional Background

Jehanne Dubrow earned an M.F.A. in poetry from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a B.A. in liberal arts from St. John’s College. During her fellowship at the Museum, she was a Ph.D. candidate in creative writing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. For her Sosland Foundation Fellowship, Ms. Dubrow conducted research for her project “Always Winter: A Novel-in-Poems.”

Ms. Dubrow’s poetry and reviews have appeared in numerous literary journals, including Poetry, The Hudson Review, The New England Review, Tikkun, Gulf Coast, Poetry Northwest, Midstream, Judaism, The Florida Review, The Southeast Review, Prairie Schooner, and The Seneca Review. She is the author of a chapbook of Holocaust poetry, entitled The Promised Bride (Finishing Line Press, 2007). Her poems are included in the anthology Blood to Remember: American Poets on the Holocaust, (Time Being Books, 2007). Ms. Dubrow’s work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and has won awards from The Atlantic Monthly, The Academy of American Poets, and the Anna Davidson Rosenberg Award for Poems on the Jewish Experience. She has served as a Student Scholar at the Auschwitz Jewish Center, in Oswiecim, Poland, and has participated in Northwestern University’s Holocaust Educational Foundation 2005 Summer Institute on the Holocaust and Jewish Civilization. Ms. Dubrow is a recipient of the Presidential, Maude Hammond Fling, and Othmer Fellowships from the University of Nebraska.

Fellowship Research

While in residence at the Center, Ms. Dubrow studied Holocaust literature, testimony, and historiography that deal with second and third generation trauma. She drew on archival materials to establish a scholarly framework for her poetry manuscript, shaping a collection informed by historical research.

Ms. Dubrow was in residence at the Mandel Center from June 1 to September 30, 2007.
