Professional Background
Dr. David Jünger is currently Research Assistant at the Center for Jewish Studies Berlin (Germany). He holds a PhD and an MA from the University of Leipzig (Germany). As the William J. Lowenberg Memorial Fellowship on America, the Holocaust and the Jews, Dr. Jünger will be conducting research for his project entitled “In Dissent. Rabbi Joachim Prinz (1902-1988).”
Dr. Jünger is fluent in English and German. He holds speaking skills in Hebrew and Spanish, and can read both French and Yiddish.
He has published a book entitled Jahre der Ungewissheit. Emigrationspläne deutscher Juden 1933–1938, (Göttingen: Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2016) [Uncertain Years. Emigration planning of German Jews, 1933–1938]. He has also been awarded several scholarships and a previous fellowship.
Fellowship Research
While in residence at the Mandel Center, Dr. Jünger researched the life of Rabbi Joachim Prinz and his impact on both German and American Jewry. He used the museums various collections, including Records of the World Jewish Congress and survivor testimonies.
Dr. Jünger was in residence at the Mandel Center until July 2017.
