Student Profile: Chaim Lato

A soundex search on Jewish Gen turns up only one person with the name Chaim Lato. Chaim Leib was born in 1929 which is the correct age for someone attending school 21B. He is also listed in the LGL as schueler. Chaim is also found in Volume 5 with his middle name spelled Lajb but with the same birthdate.

According to Jewish Gen Lodz Ghetto List Chaim lived at Fischstrasse 17 before 02/11/1942 when he was moved to Hanseaten Strasse. Volume 5 records an additional move in the NOTES field as Fisch 17 WYM 31.10.42 Hanseat 35.

According to Volume 5 Ester Masza Lato also lived at Fisch 17 29 (in the NOTES field as Fisch 17 GEST 23.8.42). She was born 16 Apr 1898 and listed as hausfrau so she may have been Chaim's mother.

Ester died of malnourishment according to the Lodz Ghetto Hospital Death Records:
