User Comment:

We think this is Szmul because that birthday would seem to indicate that he is indeed Szmul, and also his occupation is "Schueler" which means student. The last name threw us off a bit because they are spelled differently, but they sound similar and it could just be a translation difference.

For address, it shows Blattbin twice, which would indicate that Szmul moved, however we do not know to which apartment on the same street that he moved because it was not listed.

Expert Reviewer Comment:
Based on the birth date, I agree that you have found the most likely match. There dont appear to be anyone else of the same age with a closer name match than the person you found. Good research!

Good research. I agree that there is no better match in the Lodz Ghetto Inhabitants database. The name spellings are sufficiently different that I am going to mark this submission as "possible" until we can find better evidence confirming that this is the same boy who signed the album. But great research nonetheless!

Good job identifying Szmul's brothers and mother. Excellent detective work!

Given that Szmul's family members were all deported on February 22, 1942 on TR 2/2 or TR II to Chelmno, I have to wonder whether Szmul was deported from the ghetto on the same transport as his mother and two brothers, or did he stay behind (since this doesn't appear in his own record?

Since we are still not 100% sure that Szmul Dzigan and Szmul Zachen were the same person, I am going to mark the data for his relatives as "possible," too. Hopefully, we will be able to confirm this at some point.

Well done.
