Student Profile: Mosze Edelman



I agree that you're on the right track about the person who might have signed the album. Your initial hunch was right--either Moszek Edelman might have signed the album, since a birthdate in 1928 or 1929, as you say, would make the student the appropriate age to have been in school #1 in 1941. If you wouldn't mind, please enter the other Moszek Edelman's information into stage 1 on separate lines from Moszek Aron Edelman's information, just so that we know that there are two possibilities and can follow both through the next stages of research. Also, keep an eye out for the birthdates to merge, change, and intersect (2/2 versus 28/2 would be pretty easy to mistype) as you follow the students; given the close birthdates and similar addresses, there is also a slim possibility that these are two separate records for the same person.

Another potential signer, although a bit younger than these two, is Mojsze Ajdelman, born in 1933. He's less likely to be our guy, but just in case, you might want to follow him through the next few stages as well.

In addition to Baruch Edelman, who may have been a brother or male cousin to Moszek, you might want to check back through the database search for "Edelman" and see if anyone else turns up at Hohenstrasse 43--just looking briefly, I found Bejla Edelman, born in 1928 and living at the same address, a likely candidate for a sister or female cousin. Let me know what you find!

I'm going to have to mark this record as "possible" for two reasons: first, until we know more about the two Moszeks, we can't say for certain which one signed the album; second, we don't know for sure that Moszek was transported to Chelmno (there's a good possibility, given the transport number, but I'd want to see more information to support it before I approve it) and was killed there. If you could qualify your statement in the comments about his transport to Chelmno and add the other possible name and date, that would be great! See you in Stage 2.

I believe I have found Mosze's family: his mother, father, sister, and two brothers, all living first at A.M. and then at HOHENS 43.

They were all deported to Chelmno and killed in the gas vans on May 15, 1942; Transport Number 20/2.

Mother: Chana Ruchla Edelman, F, DOB 05/12/1900, Hausfrau

Father: Szyja Edelman, M, DOB 08/12/1900, Arbeiter

Brother: Boruch Edelman, M, DOB 26/04/1927, Schueler

Brother: Idel Edelman, M, DOB 05/02/1932, Schueler

Sister: Bejla Edelman, F, DOB / /1928, Schuelerin

I agree that all of these people are potential relatives of Moszek's; please do be careful, though, about assuming they all died in Chelmno until you have information that absolutely supports that they both went to and were killed there.
