[Approved applications for exemption from deportation] (ID: 35703)

Description:
This grouping is comprised of applications for exemption from deportation from the Łódź Ghetto that were accepted. The applications include letters from individuals to der Aelteste der Juden in Litzmannstadt Ausweisungs Kommission (The Eldest of the Jews in Łódź, Deportation Commission). These individuals (and their families in many cases) had received an Ausreise-Aufforderung form which told them who was supposed to report for deportation and when. The letters in the applications would include the names of those considered for deportation and then reasons why they should not be deported. Most of the reasons given have to do with their work: they are indispensible at their workshop, they have been working there for years and have specialty training, and they are hard workers. The applications also include supporting documents such as: certificates from an individual’s place of work which included name, address, occupation, and review of their work (often times attesting to the fact that they are specially training and would be hard to replace); medical forms; doctor’s notes; workers cards; marriage certificates; notes from rabbis; receipts; housing cards; information cards; and passports.
